Nico Pyrotechnik takes over Pyrotechnik Silberhütte GmbH in Silberhütte, Saxony-Anhalt.

1992

MaK System Gesellschaft presents the first production vehicle of the "Büffel 3" armoured recovery vehicle, which, in contrast to its predecessors, can be used not only for recovering and repairing defective tracked vehicles but also for disaster protection. Rheinmetall GmbH acquires a stake in WNC-Nitrochemie GmbH in Aschau/Inn, the only company in Germany to offer propellant powder for large-calibre tank and artillery ammunition.

1993

Name changed from Rheinmetall Berlin AG to Rheinmetall AG

Acquisition of a majority shareholding in STN Atlas Elektronik GmbH, strengthening of competencies in the field of defence electronics

1999

Rheinmetall acquires a majority stake in Oerlikon Contraves AG (Zurich), a world-renowned supplier of combined cannon and guided missile systems for aircraft.

Stories from 125 years of Rheinmetall

On March 20, 2023, the technology group Rheinmetall AG was included in Germany’s benchmark DAX index. This underlined the success of the company’s development over the course of 130 years. Rheinmetall has long been a fixture on the trading floor. Following the company’s founding in 1889 under the name “Rheinische Metallwaaren- und Maschinenfabrik Actiengesellschaft,” it went public in 1894. In 1996, the Düsseldorf-based company became a founding member of the MDAX (mid-cap DAX) and has been listed in this stock index without interruption ever since.
