Smoke protection systems for land vehicles
Dynamic protection
Rheinmetall provides smoke grenades to protect soldiers, small units and combat vehicles as well as multispectral and visual smoke projectiles for the employment of area smoke on the enemy area by artillery and mortars to protect larger units and military installations. With its new hybrid protection approach Rheinmetall combines active soft-kill and hard-kill technologies with passive protection.
As protection system vendor the unit Protection System offers unique 360-degree protection solutions.
LVPS 66 – Light Vehicle Protection System
The 66 mm LVPS light vehicle protection system provides spontaneous protection against conventional weapons, weapons with optical devices and laser distance measurement. Thanks to sudden interruption of the line of sight (LOS) in the visual and infrared spectrum, the LVPS system significantly reduces the chance of enemy hits. The obscurant enables friendly vehicles to take evasive action, mount a counterattack or withdraw under cover. Screening and jamming result in guidance failure and/or loss of target information in infrared-guided munitions. The Rheinmetal Maske smoke grenades can be deployed.

Dynamic protection – Survive on the move
Rheinmetall’s 40mm smoke protection system ROSY_L offers both military and civilian vehicles as well as their crews protection against surprise attacks and ambushes, e.g. on reconnaissance patrols and when travelling in convoy. Unlike conventional smoke and obscurant systems, ROSY can create dynamic smoke screens within one second in addition to the instantaneous, large-area, multispectral interruption of the line of sight. Even moving objects can be shielded long-term.
ROSY’s multi-mission capability assures 360° protection from multiple attackers without reloading, including stream and wave attacks. Moreover, thanks to effective screening in the visual and infrared spectrums, including integrated IR jamming and decoying effects, ROSY effectively counters conventional weapons, weapons with optical devices and laser rangefinders. This includes top attack protection against reconnaissance and target acquisition by drones or guided weapons.
Rosy_L comprises a basic system with a control device and one to four Rosy launchers per vehicle. By means of an one-click adapter, the system can be quickly mounted to the vehicle without tools, and just as quickly removed and stowed.
