Operations
The Operations area encompasses production and manufacturing-related activities, such as Project Management Operations, inspection, as well as the departments of Engineering & Control, Operations Excellence, and Property & Infrastructure. Below, some of our employees will share their daily work experiences at Rheinmetall:
“We are a very strong team, built on a high level of commitment and mutual trust.”
Head of Engineering & Control
After completing my high school diploma, I began an apprenticeship as an aircraft mechanic and subsequently studied Industrial Engineering with a focus on Production Technology. During my studies, I joined Rheinmetall as a working student in the production department and, after graduation, took on a role as a Manufacturing Engineer in the field of welding technology. In 2021, I became Project Manager Operations, overseeing the launch of several new projects, the maintenance of tracked vehicle systems, and assemblies. Since the spring of 2024, I have been Head of Engineering & Control, responsible for the areas of work preparation, production control, industrial engineering, and inspection.
“I’ve never had a workday where I didn’t look forward to coming to work. The job is definitely more than just a
Teamleader Operations Excellence
During my studies, I worked as a student assistant at Rheinmetall and completed my Master’s thesis here. Afterwards, I initially worked at another company as a team leader in quality assurance. For personal reasons, I moved back to my hometown of Kassel, and once again chose Rheinmetall as my employer.
“The multicultural collaboration works very well.”
Production Engineer
After completing the 10th grade, I had to choose between starting an apprenticeship or continuing with my high school education. When I received the offer from Rheinmetall, the decision was made. After my apprenticeship, I spent several years in production and assessment. For the past three years, I have been working with the Operations Kassel Experts, now known as Production Engineers. Throughout my career, I have frequently worked abroad, including in the Netherlands, Australia, England, and Algeria. Additionally, I completed a master’s program and various smaller further training courses. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s in Business Administration. I’ve been with Rheinmetall for 13 years.
“The variety of tasks and the positive work atmosphere make our location special and distinctive.”
Welding Specialist
Before applying to Rheinmetall, I had already gained a wide range of experience in manual work. I always enjoyed the different tasks, and I could apply my skills effectively. In 2002, I worked at a Rheinmetall site for an external company, initially on the Transrapid project.
I liked the work environment, the processes, and the tasks appealed to me. Furthermore, my military service, which I completed by 1995, had already sparked my interest in the metal and steel construction industry. That’s why in 2005, I applied to Rheinmetall as a welding specialist. I wanted to take on a new challenge, and Rheinmetall gave me this opportunity as a career changer. I initially worked in a different division, but since 2007, I have been with Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH.
“When our vehicles are delivered to our customers in excellent quality and on time, and everyone in the team is proud of their work, we’ve done a great job.”
Project Manager Operations
After completing my training as a mechatronics technician, I furthered my education to become a state-certified mechanical engineering technician. In parallel with my job as a production equipment designer, I completed a degree in technical business administration in evening school. I then gained experience in project management across Europe. However, after this career path ended due to a serious illness, I became active in the job application process again — including applying to Rheinmetall. In hindsight, despite all the circumstances, this turned out to be a fortunate moment.
By maintaining my network, staying in touch with recruiters, and attending a career fair (Bundeswehr Career Day), I was able to successfully join Rheinmetall through an external service provider. The contract was signed on a Friday, and by the following Monday, I started my first day in Kassel.
