WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The SHE Officer is responsible to provide an integrated SHE Management service to ensure identification and management of SHE risks within the site. 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Assist management & supervision in compiling HIRA’s for their areas
  • Assist management & supervision in update of HIRA’s & Risk profiles every 2 years or after incidents when required.
  • Ensure compliance to the OHSAct & NEMA and put in place measures to address/mitigate risks.
  • Provide inputs into any Modifications, Works Programs & Authorizations for plants
  • Maintaining certification for the organisation/site
  • Compile, review and audit of procedures and systems
  • Assist in the closing of findings after certification audits
  • Participate in audits & inspections
  • Participate in Werda exercises (2 per year per Werda area) for the site
  • Respond to all emergencies (Werda), as required
  • Ensure all plants have emergency plans, coordinators in place
  • Conduct audits and inspections of plants to ensure compliance
  • Perform planned task observations at the plants
  • Follow-up and close out of any audit/inspection findings
  • List SHE Rep findings on the follow-up system
  • Non-conformances and deviations are identified and corrected
  • Unsafe acts and conditions identified and reported to management using the CAR system
  • Ensure that deviations are raised in order to prevent incidents
  • Processes stopped when required, e.g. safety risk or non-compliance to legal requirements
  • Investigate incidents for the site
  • Reporting of incidents to Department of Labor
  • Compile incident investigation reports, as per RDM reporting standards
  • Ensure Corrective/Preventative Actions are implemented to prevent recurrence
  • Participate & Attend SHE/R meetings
  • Issue Safety Alerts & Infograms relating to SHE
  • Investigate suggestions prior to implementation to ensure feasibility and make recommendations where required.
  • Investigate and follow up on complaints from employees, as well as from outside the company.
  • Communicate legal updates to the relevant plants and management
  • Assist with the preparation of statistics for SHE meetings
  • Communicate statistics and trends to employees at various platforms
  • Informing RDM of safety issues
  • Relevant management and employees informed of latest changes in legislation
  • Ensure that complaints are properly addressed and that action is taken where required
  • Update and assist with update of SHE standards and procedures.
  • Provide inputs and comments for any SHE related policies & procedures that are being reviewed/updated
  • Review Product Manufacturing Instructions(PMI’s) & Facility Operating Instructions (FOI’s for site/plant and give SHE inputs.
  • Ensure latest SHE documentation available at the RDM Configuration department, and on RDM Connect (intranet)
  • Participate in final inspection of facilities prior to commissioning/startups
  • Review of PMI and FOI and ensure risks are covered
  • Ensure facilities comply and are safe for use.
  • Ensure that all risks are identified in all PMI and FOI
  • Ensure the site & its plants have all Permits, licenses, certificates, authorisations required to operate
  • Ensure compliance to the requirements of any permits, licences, certificates or authorisations.
  • Ensure that all legal appointments are up to date.
  • Updated licences and permits register.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental or Safety Management (safety management preferred)
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a manufacturing/chemical/production environment performing a similar role
  • Experience within explosives environment will be advantageous
  • ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 Awareness and Implementation/ISO 45001
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA)
  • SHE Legal Liability/legislation Training
  • Waste Management Course
  • Incident Investigation course
  • SAMTRAC (desirable).
  • Driver’s License: Code B.
