About the Team
Inside the protection team at MILVEHCOE we have 4 groups that work in a separate area as one team. Beside the Finish area there is the press team, the waterjet team and the material cutter team. The team size will grow rapidly up to 20 – 25 employees. This team is building our most efficient technology to protect the crew of our fighting vehicle form a wide range of threats.
About the Role
The RDA Protection Systems – Armour Shop is located within the MILVEHCOE facility in Redbank, Queensland. This workshop is responsible for the production of various protection elements including those used for the L400 Phase 2 Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle assembly process onsite at MILVEHCOE.
The Water Jet Operator will work within the Armour Shop assisting with the waterjet cutting process ensuring all aspects of the successful operation of that production capability.
As a Water jet Operator, you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:
- Complete the planned production work ensuring all Product Quality, Efficiency, Service and Maintenance requirements are met;
- Assist with operation of the Armour Shop waterjet cutting machinery and associated process inputs and outputs;
- Create and update cutting machine programmes in accordance with the product Engineering specifications and production schedules. Be able to do nesting with minimum waste;
- Maintain the cutting process work area in accordance with WHS and 5S requirements;
- Conduct in-process quality assurance checks. Ensure that build quality adheres to the required technical standards. Complete quality documentation for the work area;
- Complete work documents and systems during and upon completion of work including in the SAP ERP;
- Ensure compliance with RDA’s Health, Safety & Environment Policy requirements, and in general take any reasonable steps and precautions to protect or minimise harm to the workplace, its employees and the environment; and
- Fulfil other duties and responsibilities that may be required as determined with your manager from time to time.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:
- Previous experience working with waterjet cutter, laser cutters or CNC machines;
- A relevant trade qualification or equivalent (including Machine Operation, Tool Making, Hydraulic) (Desirable);
- Experience in CNC programming and nesting;
- Forklift ticket;
- Experience working in a production or assembly environment;
- 2+ years' experience running Waterjet or Laser cutters;
- The willingness to be trained on cutting equipment and cross-trained on other Armour Shop equipment; and
- Must be an Australian citizen with the ability to gain an Australia Defence Security Clearance.
