O & M Technician

The Operations and Maintenance Site Technician is responsible for maintaining the optimal performance of the RDM Solar PV / Generator Power Plant. This involves performing scheduled maintenance activities and overseeing control room operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable energy production. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate the functions of the Somerset West Power Station: Solar PV Plant, RDM Main Substation and Diesel Power Generation Plant.
• Oversee/Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
• Oversee/Conduct repairs and replacement of components.
• Monitoring the site on a daily basis and undertake operations and maintenance to ensure the Power Station does not have interruptions or breakdowns.
• Manage contractors servicing and/or repairing Power Station installations.
• Cooperate with the Plant operations of the Somerset West Maintenance Department.

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering
• Trade Test in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in diesel generator and solar installation or solar operations and maintenance, preferably with extensive experience in installations larger than 2MVA.
• Possess knowledge of SCADA and communication systems, would be an advantage.
• Strong ability to analyze electrical network and mechanical system events and failures.
• Experience with electrical protection schemes and electrical metering systems.
• Online PV Plant monitoring systems experience will be beneficial.
• Work effectively as part of a team and independently, with strong interpersonal skills.
• Exhibit self-motivation and the ability to work independently, while adhering to approved systems, frameworks, and standards.
• Possess or obtain a medical fitness certificate in accordance with Annexure 3 of the OHS Act Construction Regulations.
• Be proficient in English, both verbally and in written communication.
• Ability to optimally alternate between commissioning, fault-finding and remote monitoring of PV plants and on-site repair and maintenance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft packages.
• Tenacity to perform under pressure and have a pro-active/preventative mindset.
