The Design Engineer – Production Support, is responsible for the realisation and transition of designed systems, subsystems and components of military vehicles and equipment through the production process. They are to be the technical support to quality and production teams over the product life cycle, ensuring technical configuration has governed with technical assurance. The Design Engineer - Production is an integral part of the Engineering Capability and will conduct work within cross functional project specific teams at various stages of the product lifecycle.
The duties of the Design Engineer include, but not limited to:
- Read and translate design documentation to support physical review of supplied items ensuring management of quality
- Understand Designed military systems to support management and answering of technical queries form external suppliers
- Developing solutions to support productive as built requirements
- Preparation and conduct of design reviews of changed items through the production cycle.
- Realise selected concepts into documented prototype designs using integrated PDM/CAD (AGILE/TEAMCENTER/NX/E3);
- Support manufacture and verification of prototypes and incorporate test results as appropriate;
- Develop, release and maintain production documentation;
- Participate in formal and informal Design Reviews;
- Provide problem solving and continuous improvement support to Production and Through Life Support; and
Fulfil other duties and responsibilities that may be required as determined with your manager from time to time.
Required:
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering that is recognised by The Institute of Engineers Australia;
- 2 to 7 years experience;
- Have excellent written English communication skills using automotive engineering terminology;
- Must currently hold or be eligible to gain the appropriate Australian Security Clearance; and
- Ability to travel interstate and/or internationally when required.
Desirable:
- Experience in military or automotive vehicle design;
- Experience working in a low volume engineered product environment (preferably with Siemens NX);
- Experience with armoured vehicle systems - mobility, weapons, protection, mission;
- Experience with Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA); and
- Experience working within an ISO9001 framework.
