About the Team
Located in Redbank, Ipswich, the Sub-Contract Material Controller position is responsible to the Material Planning Manager within the Operations function of Rheinmetall Defence Australia. The team plays an essential role supporting the production of Rheinmetall products.
About the Role
The Sub-Contract Material Controller will be responsible for the creation of sub-contract bills of materials. They will be required to ensure that all materials are provided with sufficient time to allow the finished material to be supplied to the production line without impacting production. They will work closely with procurement to ensure that all sub-contract purchase orders reflect clearly the scope of work for both material manufacture and/or external services required and ensure the subcontractor has all they need to complete works on time.
The general and generic duties of the Sub-Contract Material Controller include, but not limited to:
- Schedule the supply of materials/components to enable sub-contractors meeting production requirements;
- Understand and manage risks to minimise impact on production schedule;
- Take follow up actions in relation to material shortages that affect the ability of the sub-contractor to deliver on time;
- Implement all processes to agreed standards and targets and support continuous improvement initiatives and identify areas of improvement;
- Utilise the Material Requirements Planning system (MRP) and ensure that data is accurate and up to date and resolve any issues as required;
- Work with the warehouse team to ensure sub contract materials are packed and dispatched in line with requirements;
- Work with the inventory team to identify inventory activities optimisation;
- Process inventory transactions for sub contract materials;
- Work with the inventory team to ensure external / sub contract inventory is accurately accounted for;
- Support the warehouse and inventory teams in optimising material usage and working capital; and
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to forecast, plan and facilitate on-time materials to the production line as and when required, avoiding disruption to production.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:
- Detailed understanding of MRP planning tools;
- Detailed experience with SAP;
- Inventory management experience;
- Understanding of sub contract process;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes;
- APICS or CIPS qualifications;
- 5+ year’s material planning experience; and
- Eligibility to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance (Australian Citizenship required).
